Our story
The Monapilla story.
Monapilla Escape is the most recent addition to the family-run Monapilla Estate, a 600-acre mixed farm just minutes from McLaren Vale. While the escape is new, the farm began in the 1830s, with our heritage-listed cottage still standing today.
That long history means we have some very old vines: 33 acres, all Shiraz, producing fruit that consistently grades in the top 5% of the region. Our grapes have gone into Penfold’s Grange, Wolf Blass Black Label and Penfold’s St Henri, as well as our own Monapilla Estate Premium Shiraz, a complimentary bottle of which is waiting when you arrive.
Luxury, to us, isn’t excess. It’s space, good design and the freedom to switch off completely. Everything here is built around that: privacy first, a light footprint, and a warm welcome to a real, working piece of McLaren Vale.

A message from the owners
Along with our vines, Monapilla Estate is home to over 400 of the best-looked-after sheep on the planet, producing award-winning lamb that regularly features on the menus of some of our state’s top restaurants. Premium Monapilla Shiraz paired with premium Monapilla lamb, cooked outside on the BBQ, is an authentic South Australian experience.
Monapilla Escape has been thoughtfully designed to offer a unique way to experience the simple joys of life: secluded private luxury, sustainably off-grid amenities and nature’s raw beauty, along with your own organic veggie garden, free-range eggs, and plenty of space to relax and unwind.
